Because you mentioned the right side of the tank - I am wondering if at some point you are leaving it sitting in the sun with the tank full - the gasoline is expanding and running down the tank - with the acids in the gas eating into the paint. That it is only fading on one side suggests that something is eating away at the paint.
I have had the expanding fuel problem a couple of times - just leaving for a highway run and wanting the tank really full.
Try drapping a cover over the tank and see if that makes any difference - a piece of simple cloth might make a difference
